Fleet Flyers Team

Who We Are

Meet Dan, who heads up coaching at our club, as well as the girls teams.
“Hey, I’m Coach Dan, Founder and Head Coach of Fleet Flyers. I’m also a PE teacher by day and DJ by night. I like contributing to the community as you can probably tell! In any other spare time I’m studying a degree in Sports, Fitness & Coaching Youth Development.
I started out coaching in Kingston, ranging right through the U10s,12s and 14s, followed by the National League. I’ve worked within the Basketball England Aspire Programme for South East England.
Once a year, I travel to the United States for Snow Valley Basketball School. It’s rated as the top basketball skills camp in America by Sports Illustrated magazine.”

Favourite Team - Boston Celtics
Favourite Player - Michael Jordan or Ja Morant

Meet Alex, who leads on coaching our under 14 boys team.
“Hey, Coach Alex here. I started playing basketball for the Hart Hurricanes when I was 9 years old. I went on to join the Solent Stars National League team when I was 12 and played for them for 6 years.  Throughout my basketball years, I’ve represented Hampshire and South England several times. I’ve played for a National Cup winning team, toured New York and even played in front of the Queen!
I’m a Level 2 qualified coach and referee. On the court, my favourite player qualities are determination and a supportive team attitude.
Off the court, I love cooking, drum and bass music, watching Marvel movies and playing computer games.”

Favourite Player - Jason Williams

Meet Calvin, who coaches our under 12s and under 14 boys teams.
“Hi, I’m Coach Calvin. When I'm not on a basketball court, you can find me on a different kind of court - a tennis court where I’ll be guiding my son (though, I’m not sure the help is wanted!)
I love all food and all music, well, as long as it's 80s pop or 90s hip hop, that is. My dream is for my children to surpass me in every way.”

Favourite Player - Reggie Miller

Meet Grace, who leads on coaching our under 13 boys team.
“Hi, I’m Coach Grace. I first discovered basketball at school, alongside football and swimming. I swam competitively when I was younger, butterfly was my favourite stroke. I used to play football for Yateley ladies’ team too. I’m on route to complete my Level 1 coach qualification.
My favourite qualities in a player are an up-beat attitude (even if we aren’t winning!), a supportive team attitude and someone who always gives their 100%.
Outside of basketball, you’ll find me laughing, hiking, or on some kind of adventure. I love capturing memorie -  I’m currently working through visiting most places in the UK!”

Favourite Team - Surrey Scorchers

Meet Adam, who leads on coaching our under 12 boys team.
“I started playing basketball in year 8; we went on to win the south east league 3 years running. I made the county team and loved it.

When I left school I went straight into work, so basketball stopped, unfortunately. However, in 2021, my son picked a ball up and took to the sport. These days we're training 5-6 days a week and ball is back in my life! I tend to try study the game with plays and drills and definitely learn from other coaches.

My spare time you guessed it…basketball! I love family time, listening to music and walks with my dog. I enjoy giving people confidence and motivation. Seeing kids gain confidence on and off the court is what it’s all about for me!"

Meet Charley, our digital and social media manager for the club.
“Hey, Charley here. You might recognise my face as the ‘media person’ who attends training, games and events.

Outside of Flyers world, I have a degree in fashion journalism and work in marketing. I am also a yoga teacher and I lead various classes in the community.
When I’m not doing all the above, you’ll catch me in the garden - or anywhere outside in nature - with my two dogs getting some vitamin D!”
